Stop Waiting for a Reagan

Tuesday, August 07, 2007

So says John Hawkins.

While John is absolutely right with regard to everything he has said in this piece, I have just one thing to say about it:

Regardless of whether there will be another Reagan in our lifetimes, or for that matter ever for this country, the litmus test for any candidate is and should be his proximity to President Reagan on the various issues. What would Reagan have done? Is a question every American conservative should ask when considering a candidate's position on an issue.

Sorry, folks. I just don't have time to say any more. Besides, what else needs to be said?

What else needs to be said? Will they quit spending money like it comes out of a fire hose? Will they make an effort to reduce to ever expanding role of government? Will they allow market forces to work? Will they reread the Constitution and commit to the document? Will they not cave into moral values as a litmus test for anything? Will they actually cut taxes?

lets look at the man and stop trying to live in the past we need someone who will get up on stage and say the things that make Americans proud to be Americans. Ronald Reagan is dead and he was a great President we don't need a clone we someone new with passion about conservatism....

Not even that, Jaded.

We need someone with passion for federalism and the Constitution.

Reagan was a B rate actor, and a B- rate president. He was not a staunch constitutionalist. He increased the power of the executive office during his tenure which every president has done since 1933 to the disadvantage of the people. He was a paper tiger federalist at best. The question here should not be "what would Reagan have done?",because we already know the answer to that question! I'm sorry, but Reagan's best, albeit better than many, falls far short of what we need to steer the ship of state into port in "08" We need a revolution, not a dog and pony show.Just saying no didn't get the job done then, and it won't now either.

President Reagan made this country look good, and he made people have faith in his leadership. He was a good man. But you're partially right sage, we need someone tough as nails right now. I'm voting for fred Thompson in the primaries.
